The Sons and Daughters of the United States Colored Troops

The Sons and Daughters of the United States Colored Troops (S&DUSCT) is chartered by the African-American Civil War Memorial Freedom Foundation(AACWMFF) to augment the Foundation's mission to use the high visibility of the National Monument " the Spirit of Freedom " and the names of 209, 143 U.S. Colored Troops to change the way American History is taught and to motivate young people, especially African-Americans, to civic pride and patriotism on a national basis.

The S&DUSCT's primary mission is to honor the historical legacy of those who served in the United States Colored Troops(USCT) and to educate the public to the true role played by free blacks and slaves in the American Civil War of 1860-1865.

Membership will be in two categories in support of the AACWMFF/S&DUSCT missions:

• Descendant Members: Will be those who have established an ancestral link to ancestors of black or white soldiers that served in the USCT.
• Memorial Members: Will be those who have adopted a USCT soldier.

The Sons of Union Veterans

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a fraternal organization dedicated to preserving the history and legacy of heroes who fought and worked to save the Union. Organized in 1881 and chartered by Congress in 1954, we are the legal successor to the Grand Army of the Republic.

Membership will be in two categories in support of the SUVCW mission:

• Hereditary Members: Hereditary membership is available to a male descendant, 14 years of age (6 to 14 for Juniors).
• Associate Members: Associate membership is available to any man who demonstrates a genuine interest in the Civil War and can subscribe to the purpose and objects of the SUVCW.

Daughters of Union Veterans

In the Articles of Incorporation of our Order, there is a key phrase that stands out, “keep green the memory”. What insight these young women, who founded this organization, had so long ago.

Through membership in the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, 1861 – 1865 each woman, who is descended from a Civil War ancestor, will have the opportunity to preserve her Civil War heritage for posterity, while honoring and revering her Civil War ancestry, and promoting patriotism for the United States of America.

Membership will be of one category in support of the DUVCW mission:

• Limited to daughters, granddaughters, and great granddaughters 8 years or older of any generation through lineal descent only.
